Thankful Thursday #74

This week I'm thankful for...
  • my husband who loves me so well
  • messages from my Ugandan children & friends
  • blackberries fresh from the backyard
  • my friend who is walking with integrity through a refining time when her integrity is being questioned.  You know who you are and I'm thankful for you.
  • reading in bed
  • my washing machine.  I never did get very good at washing my clothes by hand.
  • sleeping in my own bed
  • time spent reconnecting with friends
  • mint iced tea
  • my skin that is three shades browner because it reminds me of my Ugandan children
  • my brilliant friend Jenna who posted this on Facebook today "Love now. Speak now. Follow now. You have great influence. Use what you've been given. Be brave."
  • the new album 'Young Man Follow' by Future of Forestry.  I never, ever buy whole albums.  After listening to song samples, I bought this whole album and I LOVE it.  Be warned, when you buy this album, you will want to swallow it in big gulps and not consume any other music for a while.  Your happy finger will just keep hitting the replay button.  My favorite song is 'Love Be Your Mantra' and here's my favorite part of my favorite song:
And you tasted grace, kindness too
My friend you’ll know what hands and feet will do

Take what you’re granted
Love be your mantra
Take what you’re handed
Love be your mantra

Thankful Thursday #65

This week I'm thankful for...
  • going to the movies on a school night
  • the smell of steam from the dryer mixed with the scent of rain
  • rainy Saturdays perfect for curling up to read
  • my former students (now pre-teens) who come to my classroom after school to talk about The Hunger Games trilogy.  I try to convince them to join Team Peeta.  They roll their eyes and say things like "Of course, you'd like Peeta.  You just don't get Gale."  Then I kick them out of my classroom for blasphemy.
  • falling asleep in the middle of a good book and dreaming about it
  • my new umbrella that doesn't go tulip in the wind and rain
  • This morning while getting ready for work, I hit the shuffle jackpot.  You know it's going to be a good day when your iPhone spits out this delicious combination of songs:
  1. Future of Forestry: Colors in Array

  2. Stevie Wonder: Uptight

  3. U2: Beautiful Day

  4. Bob Dylan: Buckets of Rain

  5. Joe Anderson: Hey, Jude

  6. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts: Love Is All Around

  7. Richard Shindell: Are You Happy Now?

Thankful Thursday #60

This week I'm thankful for...
  • the rare pleasure of an empty inbox
  • time with my little ones
  • the opportunity to help a friend in need
  • the sorrow and fragility of Taps at a funeral
  • mornings in bed with the hubby
  • the band Future of Forestry. I chewed on this line from their song Slow Your Breath Down all week. "I will sing you songs of innocence til the light of morning comes, til the rays of golden honey cover you in the sweetness of the Throne." How beautiful is that?  You deserve a little beauty in your day so here's Slow Your Breath Down.
